Recent reports from Disney Latino have suggested that the story told in the first 3 Toy Story films will not be continued in the recently-announced fourth entry. In an interview with Pixar President Jim Morris, it is hinted that the story following Woody and Buzz may be done for good.

Morris says that “it is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3“, and that in fact it will be a “romantic comedy that’s light on the human-to-toy interactions”, suggesting that Toy Story 4 will be taking a very different approach, perhaps similar to the recent shorts set in the Toy Story universe: Toy Story of Terror and Toy Story That Time Forgot, where humans are a rarity. However, this also may mean that the characters that we have come to love may be left behind, and a new, fresh set of toys may be introduced.

According to the Disney Latino article, the script for Toy Story 4 is also finished, and that table reads are taking place. Morris also mentions that the film is “developing well”, and that the Pixar President believes it will be “a very good movie”.

Even better news for Pixar fans, we now know that heavyweights Andrew Stanton, John Lassenter, Lee Unkrich and Pete Docter are all in for this latest film, so we know that the film will get the loving attention it will require if it is to succeed, and that at the moment, there are no plans for a sequel. Morris says “never begin a project with that in mind”, and if the story is self-contained and powerful – typical of Pixar – things are sounding good.

From what we know, there is a lot of care going in to Toy Story 4. Although Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys may not be back, we can still expect a powerful and beautiful story that will entertain those of all ages.
