The full title for the new Star Wars film has been announced as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The news was announced on the official Star Wars website today (November 6) by director JJ Abrams, as well as the news that the upcoming entry into the franchise has completed principal photography. It is still not clear when reshoots will take place, or when we can expect to see a trailer, but the news will certainly have fans of the saga frothing at the mouth.
In my opinion, this is an interesting title, but probably asks more questions than it answers. It implies the force awakens in the film, but this could have several meanings. We know this isn’t going to be a prequel, so it already confuses the timeline. Could we see a film littered with flashbacks, only to justify the subtitle, or is this going to be a development leading on from the end of Return of the Jedi, where the powers of force are eradicated?
What do you think of the announcement? Is there another name you would have preferred, or are you happy with this new development? Whatever your opinion, comment below.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on December 18th 2015.
