After only 24 hours of the famed San Diego Comic-Con, Deadline have announced huge news for the DC Cinematic Universe.

Ben Affleck, who plays Batman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice – due for release on 2016 – has been signed on to star, direct and co-write the upcoming Batman solo film, which currently has no release date. Affleck, famed for directing the Oscar-winner Argo, is going to be writing alongside Geoff Johns, one of DC Comics’ most notorious writers.

It’s clear that Affleck has a passion for Batman, since he postponed his latest directorial venture – Live By Night – to star in Batman vs. Superman, so he will no doubt be passionate about the project. As we say, a release date has not been set, but the Warner Bros. SDCC conference – due to take place on Sunday – will no doubt shed some light on this exciting development.
