The title and lead actress of the first Star Wars spin-off film, due for release in 2016, has been revealed.

According to an article on the official Star Wars website (click here), the film will be called Rogue One, and will star Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones, best known for her roles in The Theory of Everything and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Still on to direct is Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Monsters, and more recently Godzilla. There isn’t much news regarding its plot, but we were told that it was thought up by John Knoll, an Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor who also happens to work at Industrial Light & Magic, a visual effects company owned by Lucasfilm.

Alongside this news was the announcement of the director of Star Wars Episode VIII, confirmed to be Rian Johnson, who’s work includes sci-fi thriller Looper, and several episodes of the critically-acclaimed (we liked it too) TV series Breaking Bad. As with Rogue One, we really don’t know too much about this, but expect some interesting and thought-provoking sci-fi, and maybe even a cameo from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who he has worked with before.

There’s not too much we can take from this news, but if I were to guess I would think it may be to do with a Starfighter pilot, or a squadron, as suggested by the title Rogue One.

What do you think Rogue One will be about? Are you happy with the name? As always, be sure to leave a comment below and find us on these sites for further updates:
