Exciting news coming out of Disney today, as the release date for the much-anticipated premiere of The Mandalorian season 2 on Disney+ is announced.
After a long period of radio silence, a tweet from the official Star Wars account today (September 2nd) revealed the show will return to Disney+ on October 30th with new episodes.
Little else is known aside from this, but it’s safe to assume that a trailer will be arriving in the next few weeks, and like the first season, we’ll probably get a new episode each week instead of the Netflix ‘binge-drop’ approach. There are some assumptions we can make, however: even from the logo seen in the tweet above, it’s clear that the much-loved Baby Yoda will once again feature heavily. The new blue colour scheme is also interesting – perhaps hinting at a different tone and change in direction for the show.
The announcement has been met with some suspicion, as it arrives the same day as John Boyega’s interview with GQ, in which the actor – who played Finn in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker – accused Disney of prioritising the development and roles of white characters in the sequel trilogy, while abandoning the arcs of non-white characters. Some believe Disney have announced The Mandalorian‘s release date to cover up this disappointing revelation from one of their former stars – and if true, it’s a shocking move.
The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on October 30th.
