MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DAREDEVIL SEASON 2 AHEAD!

So, Daredevil‘s second season has been on Netflix for just a while now, and although I’m not going to do a proper review for it, it’s safe to say that I loved it. When I watched Daredevil‘s first season last year I really took my time, finishing it in about a week and a half, but with season two, I just couldn’t help myself, with my binge ending around 3 days after it premièred. After such a binge, there were only two questions on my mind. One – when does the third season come out? and two – what’s it going to be about? And now it’s official that we’ll see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in action again (having been renewed for a third season at San Diego Comic-Con), there’s quite a lot we can draw from interviews and the second season as to what to expect when we see Daredevil again.

The first possible direction is the introduction of legendary Daredevil villain Bullseye. He’s not yet been seen in the series, although he was played (quite poorly) by Colin Farrell in 2003’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck. Now, this theory makes sense on a number of levels. Not only is Bullseye notoriously one of Daredvil’s most dastardly foils (a Newsarama list ranked him Daredevil’s second best villain, with only the Kingpin ahead), but Charlie Cox himself said this:

If we are fortunate enough to continue making the Daredevil series, I can’t imagine doing a run of Daredevil where Bullseye doesn’t show up at some point. It would be great to have him around at some point. Who would play that part I have no idea but I just think there’s such an interesting, rich character there, and also of course, the history that Bullseye has with Karen Page is an interesting dynamic.

Not only that, but before the second season’s promotional campaign began, rumours were circulating that Jason Statham had been picked up for the role, but as of yet this hasn’t materialised. That said, this does prove that (if true) Marvel are interested in introducing Bullseye into the MCU, with a third season of Daredevil being the most logical way to do so.

The second theory is to do with Elektra and The Hand. At the end of the season two finale, we of course saw Elektra being resurrected and brought to the Hand’s underground lair, then put in a tomb that Nobu was previously in. Now, we know that Nobu has been granted immortality, seemingly due to this tomb of sorts, so it’s only sensible to assume that – as the infamous Blue Sky – the same is being done to Elektra. The Hand are most certainly not wiped out, and with Nobu and their supposed leader Elektra at the helm, season 3 could get very interesting. That said, it’s unclear how Elektra would turn on Daredevil, especially as Matt wanted to start a new life with her, and did all he could to prevent her ‘death’. Other than that though, this theory definitely holds up.

Finally, we have a potential return for Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. Although he completed his goal of killing those responsible for his family’s death by disposing of the Blacksmith (although I personally found this arc pretty poorly communicated), we can rest assured that a character as popular as the Punisher will absolutely be back. He himself clearly still has a few loose ends to tie up, evidenced by the CD he retrieves from his home before he sets it up in flames, and the military arsenal he equips himself with: he has to have that for a reason, right? Netflix have recently answered the pleas of fans and have given Jon Bernthal’s Punisher a mini-series, but I think a return to Daredevil for its third season would also make a lot of sense, because he’s already established in Hell’s Kitchen and has got to know the supporting cast, something that, when done in a mini-series, will take up a lot of time that otherwise wouldn’t be spent stabbing people.

There you have it. Although we don’t know when exactly we will see Daredevil return, we do know that there will be plenty for the show-runners to go on. And boy, after racing through the second season, I simply cannot wait.
