For years, Hugh Jackman has been one of the most consistent actors of this century, coming back time and time again to reprise his role of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. In fact, he is the comic-book film star that has featured in the most superhero films: currently residing at 7 after X-Men: Days of Future Past, but after X-Men: Apocalypse next year and Wolverine 3 in 2017, he will have broken his own record up to 9. But unfortunately, word from Jackman himself suggests that the as-of-yet untitled The Wolverine sequel – due for release in 2017 – may be his last outing as the blade-equipped hero. Here is Jackman’s own Instagram post which suggested this:
At the moment, it’s unclear whether he’s referring to Apocalypse or Wolverine 3, but our best best is to think it’s the latter. This news, although not formally confirmed, comes just days after superstar Jennifer Lawrence announced that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the last X-Men film she features in. Today is a sad day for X-Men fans everywhere. Don’t go, Hugh!
