If you’re patiently (or impatiently) waiting for the Jason Bourne 6 release date, you’re far from the only one. The action-thriller series that propelled Matt Damon to worldwide fame is one of the most beloved franchises in modern Hollywood, even if we haven’t had a new instalment since 2016. If you’re wondering when the next Jason Bourne movie is scheduled to land, we’ve got all the details you need.
Jason Bourne 6 Release Date Speculation
At the time of writing, Jason Bourne 6 does not have a release date, but as recently as November 2023 the movie was confirmed to be in active production.
As such, if you were hoping to see Matt Damon’s Bourne return in 2024 or 2025, you’re out of luck. Since we’ve had no casting news or even a title for the new Bourne movie, it’s hard to imagine it’ll release any time before 2026. Combined with the delays caused by the writers’ strike of summer 2023, and you’ll have to wait patiently for the next Bourne movie.
Fortunately, we know for certain that it’s in the works – unlike other hotly-anticipated sequels like Home 2. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed late in 2023 that All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger had signed on to help develop the project. At this stage, it’s unclear whether he’ll direct the film or instead act as a producer.
One other thing we don’t know is whether the franchise’s star Matt Damon will return for Jason Bourne 6. He notably skipped on 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, which ended up being the franchise’s second-lowest-entry. Back in 2017, a year after Jason Bourne released, Damon told the Toronto Sun that he wasn’t sure if he’d return for a potential sequel. “This last one didn’t do as well as the one we did 10 years ago, so maybe people are done with the character,” Damon said at the time.
Of course, the seven years since that statement could well have changed Damon’s mind. Legacy sequels are all the rage in Hollywood, with this year’s Twisters and Gladiator 2 proving there’s no such thing as too long between follow-ups. Far stranger things have happened, like Hugh Jackman’s return to Wolverine after retiring from the role back in 2017. Damon returning as Bourne isn’t too much of a stretch.
