Adam Sandler doesn’t tend to do legacy sequels to his older movies, which is why the Happy Gilmore 2 release date is likely to be one of the industry’s biggest moments this year. Happy Gilmore 2 does not have a release date yet, though it is expected to come out later in 2025.

So far, all we have to go off is a brief teaser shared on Netflix’s YouTube channel late in 2024. It features a few new scenes of Happy Gilmore stepping onto the golf course again, plus glimpses of supporting actors such as Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald.

At the end of that teaser, it confirms that a broad 2025 window is when Happy Gilmore 2 will release, but nothing more specific than that. If we had to wager, though, much later in the year is the most likely scenario. Principal photography only started in September 2024, and was ongoing as recently as December when it wrapped. Considering the time required for any reshoots plus post-production and promotion, and it’ll likely arrive just in time for the holiday season.

Happy Gilmore 2 will be one of the few sequels to Adam Sandler’s hot streak of comedy smash-hits in the 1990s. Other properties like Big Daddy, The Waterboy, and Billy Madison were one-off movies, and for almost 30 years after the release of Happy Gilmore in 1996, it could’ve stayed that way.

Fortunately, Sandler is experiencing something of a renaissance in the 2020s. The critical success of Uncut Gems has resulted in more dramatic roles for Sandler, such as Spaceman and Hustle. He’s still loyal to his comedy roots though, having also appeared in two Murder Mystery films, Hubie Halloween, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.
